We should learn to understand that stress is a necessary part of our lives. Whether we accept that fact or not, stress helps us in our lives. Without it, or without problems, our mental maturity is hindered. Man creates his own problems, and it's his obligation to face and solve them. Stress can push us to be capable of doing things that we are not capable of when we are in a relaxed state. The fight-or-flight response gives us more energy, stamina, and concentration to handle various situations that we perceive as threats.
Solving problems is not the main reason for our mental growth. The way we cope, and our failures in life also helps us grow. Of course, all this depends on how each of us sees the situation. Our perception and approach to each problem are heavily influenced by the way we think. In the same sense, how we think creates a greater impact when it comes to stress relief. No matter how effective your stress relieving techniques are, if you are still dwelling, consciously or subconsciously, on the problem, you will never achieve total relief. This is the reason why a lot of people complain that most or all of the stress relieving techniques they have tried does not work. Some even say that the techniques they've tried have made it worse. There are only two types of thought patterns during stress: negative and positive. If you would like to find out which you belong to, consciously monitor your thoughts. If you want to find out which group you belong in, consciously monitor your thoughts, do you tend to stick to the "what ifs" or the "worst case scenario" or are you the type of person that can still see the lighter side no matter how bleak things may get? If you belong to the second group then good for you, as achieving relief would is easy for you, but if you are in the first group category then you will need to do something about it, and as soon as possible at that. Changing the way you think about things will require you to have patience. You will also need to let go of your pride. Monitoring your thoughts will take a little time. It will not happen overnight. You will also need to admit that your usual reactions get you into another event that will cause you stress. It is not impossible. The sooner you change your way of thinking, the sooner things will get better. About the Author: Johnson Star, certified behavioral consultant (USA) used to be always under stress.
