While you may think that it is other people that are what causes jealousy the actual cause of jealousy is within the person that is experiencing the jealousy. Jealousy is an internal issue and it may be very difficult to come to terms with why you are feeling jealous. Most times jealousy is due to a person having low self worth or low self esteem.

If you do not think well of yourself or are constantly doubting yourself then you may frequently feel jealous towards those individuals that may have qualities you wish you had. This means that in many situations your jealousy will blow situations out of proportion. Jealousy changes how you perceive the world and your role in the world.

Many times if you worry about something, such as your partner leaving you then you may become jealous of anyone that they speak to because you are insecure and always worried that he or she will leave you for someone else. Jealousy will make normal things seem out of proportion and what is normal for many people will not appear normal to you.

The intensity of your jealousy will depend on who you are jealousy of and it can differ depending on the person and situation. Many times if you dislike the person you are jealous about then your jealousy can be very intense. However if you like the person then you may only be a little jealous.

Many times jealousy is accompanied by feelings of anger and fear. Many people get jealous when they flirt with a friend, achieve something you have been trying to do, someone you do not like succeeds or someone achieves something and you don't think they deserve it.

The best way to get rid of jealousy is to work on your self esteem. If you feel good about yourself then you will feel more confident and good towards other people, which will have the beneficial side effect of reducing any jealous feelings you may have had.
