Halo 3: ODST is a video game where players are able to maneuver through a war that takes place in the 26th century. This war is waged between humans and various alien races. The humans are commanded by the United Nations Space Command, while the aliens form what is known as the Covenant. This Halo version is a continuation of the storyline from Halo 2 and was created two years from the release of Halo 3. ODST stands for "Orbital Drop Shock Troopers", which were first introduced in Halo 2.

The setting of this game is in the 26th century, where humans and aliens are still at war. The United Nations Space Command is in charge of the humans and their alien enemies are call the Covenant. The Rookie is the main player and he has a squad of 5 teammates to assist with missions. The entire team enters into their HEVs, or Human Entry Vehicles, and prepare to drop through the atmosphere. They are to head to the ship belonging to the Covenant, but a teammate had changed the trajectory on the HEVs.

This change caused the alien ship to jump into hyperspace, triggering a shockwave that hits the group of HEVs. The Rookie ends up in a collision course with another HEV, due to this shockwave.

It still takes place in the 26th century and the humans are still against the aliens, but there is more to the plot. In the beginning, the Rookie and his team are dropping through the atmosphere in their Human Entry Vehicles. These HEVs are heading toward the Covenant's ship, but one of the teammates had changed the trajectory codes before the drop. The Covenant ship goes into warp speed and causes a shockwave.

As the Rookie finds articles belonging to missing soldiers from his group, a flashback occurs. This moment allows the player to see what the other soldier went through and enables him/her to be in control of that teammate for a while.

As clues are found along the route, the Rookie is able to figure out his teams exploits. When items belonging to teammates are found, this initiates a flashback and the player can see what the other teammate experienced.

Positive reviews were given all around, for the music style, atmosphere created, and how the overall story was approached. The scenery may be similar, but almost everything else is new. Being a trooper in Halo 3: ODST, the player is allowed to have access to weapons that are considered to be exclusive. Also, the flashback effect of the game allows the player to assume the role of another teammate. Even though the player isn't a supersoldier in this game, the role of the UNSC soldier is no less exhilarating.
