There are many roofing materials which are needed when building the roof of any building. One will need to calculate effectively the amount of roofing materials needed, to assure there is enough money to cover all the expenses needed to build a solid roof made of any material desired.

The first example of a roofing material is asphalt shingles. These are typically the most popular item used when finishing a roof that will be used on a home or a building protecting the interior items and construction. Asphalt shingles are rather heavy and need to be installed according to the proper directive steps in order to seal and protect as intended.

Removing the old roof is probably the first step in any type of roof repair. Then an individual will know the extent of the damage and the calculation of how much roofing materials needed will come into a clearer prospective.

Wooden shingles are used in some areas, but generally are not recommended in an area that has a high risk of termite infestation. Wooden shingles are made of ceder or pine and are installed using the step illusion. These are attached using common nails, and do need replacement more frequently than other roofing materials used.

Most likely there is plywood used between the rafters and the outside roofing material. Then there is usually some sort of tar paper rolled onto the wood. This paper is another protection precaution to protect the rafters from unexpected roof leaks or damage.

Then there are several different types of fasteners used to secure the roof, depending on the material that is used. Flat headed nails are the most common type of fasteners used to attach shingles to a roof. When a person is installing a tin roof, most likely there will be screws that are colored to match the tin, with a rubber seal around the head to keep water out of the underside of the roof.

The final step to creating a new roof is the type of roofing materials that will be used to protect the building. Shingles are the most common, but tin can be used too. Also there are solar panels, Plexiglas and many other options that can be used when deciding which type of roof is desired to perfect the construction of the new roof.
